Sculling is fun and great exercise!

My name is Mark Cox.  You may have seen me sculling around one of the Washington area waterways and noted the web address on the side of my boat.  If it looked like I was having a great time and happy to be there, it is because I was doing all of those things and getting the best possible exercise at the same time.

Wherever I go sculling, people approach me to ask about my boat.  They comment that it is a beautiful craft that seems to glide through the water with very little effort.  They want to know who made it,  if it is stable, how much it cost and where to buy one.

I am happy to share all that information because I love introducing people to sculling.
The Heritage model is a wonderful sculling craft.  It is a traditional design called a Dory coupled with a sliding seat.  What I like about the Heritage is that it is a very stable boat that is faster and more comfortable than a kayak or a canoe and easier to learn to scull than a shell.  I average around 5 mph with short bursts between 6 & 7 mph in the Heritage.  It tracks very well and rides over waves effortlessly.  There is plenty of room for two scullers and a passenger (or dog), lots of gear, a picnic lunch and a cooler full of drinks.  This boat begs to be taken on long adventures, exploring out of the way places.

The Heritage comes in three sizes: 12', 15' and 18', they are all light enough to be carried on top of a car.  My Heritage is the 18 foot model and I prefer to  trailer it because I like backing down the ramp and pushing it in the water with all the stuff already in it.

Rowing in the Heritage can best be described as Glorious!  Every time I go out it is a new adventure.  I meet great people, see new sights and get to explore places that are only available by boat.  In my opinion, learning to row the Heritage is easier and much safer than one of the narrower crafts.  Most people pick up the basics of rowing with about an hour of practice.  After that, the more you do it, the better you get.

I love owning my own boat because it allows me the freedom to go when and where I want to go.  I enjoy exploring different places, beyond the limitations imposed by membership in a rowing club.

I enjoy exploring the Rappahannock and Potomac rivers as well as the Occoquan reservoir.  Sometimes I go out for an hour to get a work out.  Other times I go out for the day with a friend.  We have a good conversation, share lunch and it is always a rewarding experience.  Rowing for me is more than I can describe in this small space.  The best thing I can suggest is that you try it.

If you would like to check out the rowing experience, please call me at 703-919-0169 or send an email to mark@Ezrow.com.  You can try one of my boats on the water and see if you like it.
I look forward to hearing from you.
